Iron River is a city located in Iron County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,929.
As of July 1, 2000, the city of Stambaugh and the village of Mineral Hills were both merged into the city of Iron River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.0 km2 (3.5 mi2). 9.0 km2 (3.5 mi2) of it is land and 0.1 km2 (0.04 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 0.57% water.
